Monticello

Monticello was the house and plantation of Thomas Jefferson. When you arrive and find parking you buy your ticket at the bottom and make your way either via a bus or on foot to the top of the hill here the house is situated. When you buy your ticked you get a time when you need to report to the front of the house for the house tour. Usually 2 or more hours after you purchased your ticket which leaves you some time to explore the grounds. They have a few free tours around the grounds. We opted for the slavery tour. The guide discusses the history of the grounds and its slaves. It was a pretty interesting tour. You can also explore under the house on your own and the gardens. The tour in the house has no photography allowed. They take you from room to room and the guide gives you a lot of insight not only into the house (which is interesting) but also Thames Jefferson’s life and character. All and all this is definitely worth a visit.

All and all it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and the guides were all amazing.
